Where Does The Tree Come From?
This year’s tree is an 80-foot Norway spruce that weighs 12 tons. It was donated by the McGinley family from Vestal, New York, a town about 190 miles northwest of NYC. The tree was found by Rockefeller Center’s head gardener Erik Pauze, who noticed it towering over Matt and Jackie McGinley’s driveway. The couple decided to donate their tree in hopes that it would bring joy to others during the holiday season.
How’s The Tree Decorated?
The tree will be decorated with more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights, on approximately five miles of wire wrapped around it. The three-dimensional Swarovski star on top is covered in 3 million crystals. The tree will also feature a custom-made wreath made of more than 10,000 ornaments, including hand-painted glass balls and handcrafted wooden stars.

How Can We Watch The Lightning Ceremony?
The annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” will air via a two-hour telecast on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 8 P.M. on NBC. The Radio City Rockettes will also perform at the lighting ceremony.
